The uses for essential oils are as numerous as the delectable scents that are available. But more than a pretty fragrance, each scent addressees certain feelings and emotions, which can improve different ailments when used properly.
Check out our essential oil picks below, along with different ways to incorporate them into your life this spring.
1. Geranium
What it’s good for: Geranium has a lot to offer. It’s astringent, antibacterial and antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumoral. It can speed up the healing process of wounds, promotes cell health and regeneration, balances hormones, improves circulation, and treats depression and anxiety, among other things.
How to use it: Use it to uplift your spirits by inhaling it through a diffuser or vaporizer. Inhaling geranium can also help support cell growth, release toxins through increasing urination, prevent nose and throat infections, and reduce inflammation in the body.
2. Juniper Berry
What it’s good for: Juniper berry cleanses the liver and breaks down uric acid, purifying the blood. Juniper berry is also good for increasing circulation and urine elimination as well as healing skin conditions, soothing muscle aches, aiding digesting and combating fatigue. Its fragrance also dispels negativity and has been used since ancient times for spiritual purification.
How to use it: Use juniper berry to fight skin irritations and infections and as a home remedy for acne. Mix one to two drops with a carrier oil and use it as a gentle astringent or moisturizer after washing your face.
3. Peppermint
What it’s good for: Peppermint stimulates circulation and liver function. It can treat indigestion, respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, fever, and works as a pain reliever. It is also energetically invigorating and can help bring things into focus.
How to use it: To combat headaches, mix a drop of peppermint oil with a small amount of carrier oil and rub on your temples, forehead and over the sinuses (avoiding contact with the eyes), and on the back of the neck. This can also help with energy and focus.
4. Wild Orange
What it’s good for: Wild orange is said to have more – and stronger – properties than regular orange. Commonly used for digestive and immune support, it’s high in antioxidants, can help balance an overactive liver, and cleanses and purifies. Energetically this oil is very happy and positive, helping to move built-up stress and frustration out, boosting your energy and mood.
How to use it: Add a drop to your water every day for a burst of flavor, to promote overall health and help cleanse the body of toxins. It can also be added to a spray bottle with water and used for cleaning counter tops, cabinet doors and wood floors.
